Education that is truly Christian

Much in our culture and in the field of education is labeled as “Christian,” while not agreeing with the teaching of Jesus Christ as revealed in Scripture. At JHCA, we believe that for an education to be truly Christian, it must hold Christ as central to all things. As such, the Word of God (the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments) and Jesus Christ, who is described both as God in human flesh and as the embodied Word of God (John 1:1-5, 14), are the starting point and lens through which all subjects are to be viewed. This is a biblically holistic view of education which does not see various subjects as segregated pursuits, but rather this view holds God at the center of all things, and all things holding together in Him.

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.” -Proverbs 9:10

With God as the Creator of all things, the moral Law-giver, and the central authority for all things pertaining to truth (John 17:17) and life (2 Peter 1:3-4), His Word - the Bible - is the standard by which all ideologies, philosophies, and worldviews can be measured (Colossians 2:8; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; Hebrews 4:12-13; 2 Peter 1:19-21). Understanding that Scripture describes true knowledge and wisdom as being bound up in “the fear of the LORD” (Proverbs 1:7, 9:10), knowledge of the character of God and His relationship to all academic studies - as well as to our personal relationship with the infinite-personal God (Isaiah 53:5-6, 11; John 1:9-13, 16-18, 29, 3:16-21, 14:4-9, 17:3; Romans 3:21-26; 1 Timothy 2:5-6) - is integral to a truly Christian education (Deuteronomy 6:1-9; Psalm 119:99).

“See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.” -Colossians 2:8
